Coming Soon To A Flight Near You - Web Access
Addicted to your BlackBerry? Suffer from web-withdrawal while flying? If you’ve worried about missing that critical business deal, or being disconnected from loved ones while you fly, your moment of rescue…salvation…is at hand!
In an announcement today, AirCell stated their national air-to-ground network ( “gogo”) is ready to be deployed. The company has contracted with Virgin America’s entire fleet, as well as a test-run with American Airlines. Connecting will be done via Wi-Fi, and pricing is expected to run about $13 for long haul flights, and $10 for flights of less than 3 hours.
With the ability to access e-mail and the Web at 30,000 feet, some passengers will love the efficiency and increased productivity – but others are sure to mourn the loss of temporarily being unreachable while flying (that said, it’s worth mentioning that cell phones still can’t be used).
