Midwest Airline Cuts 11 Cities, Hundreds of Flights

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 4:39:49 PM

Midwest Airlines today announced significant schedule reductions, effective September 8th, in response to "extraordinarily high fuel prices".

The following cities will be eliminated from their network: Baltimore, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Hartford, Louisville, Muskegon, Raleigh/Durham, San Diego, St. Louis, San Antonio, and Wausau/Stevens Point.

In addition, the carrier is removing from service its MD-80 fleet, used primarily for long haul flights to Milwaukee. Some routes previously served with MD-80's will now be served with Boeing 717's and will make an additional stop in Kansas City.

Finally, Midwest will change service to some Florida markets, like Orlando, from year-round to seasonal, operating only between October 21st and April 9th.

All of these changes take effect on September 8th. Passengers holding Midwest tickets who are affected by the changes, will be reaccommodated on another flight or another airline, where possible, or given the option for a full refund.
