In a sign of the times, Southwest Airlines has announced that they will remove sliced lemons from their in-flight drink service. Beginning October 1st, those customers who prefer sliced fruit with their beverages will have to settle for limes.

According to airline spokesman Brad Hawkins, the move is expected to save the carrier over $100,000 per year. The decision was prompted by the fact that after a flight lands, there is often "an excess of lemons" on board, a "needless waste", according to Hawkins.
