US Air to Limit Free Baggage Allowance

Three weeks after United announced a new fee structure for baggage, today US Airways announced a similar change to their baggage policy.

Beginning May 5, 2008, they’ll charge $25 for a second checked bag. The new fee applies to travel on or after May 5 for tickets purchased on or after February 26, 2008.

The fee is waived for first and business class passengers, Dividend Miles Preferred Members, active military personnel with ID, unaccompanied minors, and passengers checking personal assistive devices.

As is often the case, after one major airline implements a change like this, most of the competition will follow suit. It seems likely this trend will continue, and we'll be here to keep you posted!
