The marketing team at Southwest have launched a promotional offensive to attract new customers to their ‘Rapid Rewards Plus’ credit card. If you sign up for the card now, the airline is offering a nice sweetener: 50,000 bonus points after the first purchase. You can redeem these points for 2 free roundtrip flights, which is a pretty generous incentive and certainly one of the best credit card offers currently doing the rounds.
As an added bonus, new customers will receive 3,000 points each year on their “Cardmember anniversary”, which can be redeemed for a $50 Southwest flight.
There’s also the possibility to earn 1 point per $1 when you transfer your balance from an existing credit card, up to a maximum of 10,000 points.
Be aware that these bonus points can only be redeemed for Southwest’s ‘Wanna Get Away’ flights, which is the airline’s basic, non-refundable fare class.
There’s an annual membership fee of $69 for the Rapid Rewards Plus card, which is a Visa credit card issued by Chase Bank USA. Cardholders accrue 2 points for every $1 spent on Southwest flights, partner hotels and car rentals, and then 1 point per $1 for all other purchases. Be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully before you apply.
All told, this is one of the best reward card offers we’ve seen from an airline in recent memory. If you’re an avid traveler and considering applying for a new credit card, this Southwest offer is definitely worth a look.
