The latest route in United Airlines’ network is San Francisco – Raleigh-Durham, NC. The airline launched service on August 14 and flies once daily in each direction.
Flights depart San Francisco (SFO) at 1pm and Raleigh-Durham (RUD) at 7am. Travel time is around five and a half hours, and United is currently advertising round-trip fares from $396.
This is the first direct connection between the Bay Area and Raleigh-Durham. Which is surprising, because both regions are major technology hubs with extensive business links. Many Silicon Valley companies have a presence in North Carolina, and vice versa.
The Department of Transportation estimates 800 passengers fly between the two regions every day, usually with a connection in Chicago, Houston, or Charlotte. United is clearly hoping to scoop up some of this traffic. The new service flies on the 154-seat Boeing 737-800, and should appeal to wide range of business travelers.
