Most major car rental companies require that you are 21 years and over. If you are under 25, you may have to pay a surcharge. Only New York and Michigan allow car rental companies to rent to people 18 years and over. It’s always a good idea to call the rental company or travel agency and inquire about their policy.

Please present your valid driver’s license and major credit card when picking up your rental car. Most companies have a minimum age requirement of 21 years; renters between the ages of 21-25 may encounter additional surcharges.

It may be advisable to bring your insurance card if your insurance agency provides rental car coverage.

Of course, wherever your travels may take you – bring along your email confirmation!

The preferred method of payment is major credit card. Debit cards may be accepted, however, additional processing (such as a credit check) may be required by the car company.

We’ll show you a typical make/model that the car company offers so that you can plan for the number of people and luggage space you need. You’re guaranteed the vehicle class once you make your reservation. You will be assigned to a specific vehicle when you arrive at the rental car agency.

Thinking about an upgrade? These are guaranteed, so your best bet is to reserve the vehicle class (economy, compact, intermediate, standard, full, etc.) that meets your passenger and luggage requirements. Better to have too much room than too little!

When shopping for rental cars, it is very important to compare apples to apples. Unlike some of our competitors, we provide our customers with an estimate of the total rental price for the entire rental period, taking into account the time of day that you will be picking up and dropping off your car. In most cases, rates shown include state and local taxes, in addition to airport fees. We call this an "estimated" rate because those taxes and fees are always subject to change. Note: A handful of vendors do not include tax with their rates. These are primarily car rental companies outside the U.S.A. In these cases, we will clearly display next to the rate the phrase "tax not included". If you do not see that message, you can be confident that the rate you are looking at does include an estimate of all taxes.

To cancel or change a call rental reservation, you can:  

(1) Call the car vendor directly;

(2)E-mail One of Our Representatives;

(3)or call our Customer Support Line at 1-800-CHEAP-AIR (1-800-243-2724).

In most cases, you are not required to pay for your rental car until you pick it up.

Bear in mind: this means that the driver of the car must have a credit card in his or her name and must present that card to the rental agency prior to driving off with the car. It also means that an individual generally cannot "purchase" a rental car for somebody else by prepaying it, as one can do with an airline ticket.

In rare instances, a credit card guarantee or deposit will be required in order to reserve a car. When this is the case, we will alert you during the reservation process and ask you to provide a card. When making reservations that require a credit card upfront, please carefully review the rules because a penalty might apply for changes or cancellations.

Mileage allowance is shown with the rental car rate – look for this when booking online or in your email confirmation. When “Unlimited Miles” is shown – you’ve hit the jackpot and can drive as far as you want … within reason, of course!

Since you’re paying for the gas, you’ll want to make sure your wallet can take you as far as you want to go!

A couple of other things to keep in mind: some car rental companies may allow unlimited mileage with a certain geographic restriction (such limiting travel to/from/within the state and/or neighboring states) and may not allow the car to cross an international border (such as Mexico).

Verify the all rental agreement terms at the time of arrival.

If your company is part of a corporate discount program (e.g. the Hertz Business Account Program or the Avis Corporate Rewards Program) and you have a corporate ID code for that program, enter that code here to take advantage of any savings you are entitled to. Some associations (e.g. an automobile association) also provide car rental discount benefits. If you are a member of such an association and they have provided you a discount code, you should enter that code here. For corporate or association discount codes, select "Corporate" as the discount type.

If you have an individual frequent renter program number that may entitle you to a discount (e.g. a Hertz #1 Club number or Avis Wizard number) you can enter those numbers here, too, by selecting "Individual" as the discount type.

Once your rental car is confirmed, you may wish to request optional features such as a child safety seat, ski rack, or GPS navigational system. Rates will vary based on vendor and typically range from $10.00 to $30.00 per day based on the type of equipment requested.
