We are excited to announce that we’re the first online travel agency in the world to accept Bitcoin, an entirely digital currency, as a method of payment for flights on CheapAir.com!

Book your flights on CheapAir with Bitcoin virtual currency

If you have not been following the Bitcoin craze, rest assured—you can still purchase flights using credit card or Western Union—but if you have been following the Bitcoin trend, we hope you’re as intrigued as we are with this progressive form of digital payment.

The idea came to us a few months ago, and we’re proud to say it ignited directly from a customer inquiry to one of our Travel Advisors: Can I pay with Bitcoin for my flight?  The question didn’t just stop there; it made its way to our development team and CEO, Jeff Klee. After some initial research and discussion, it then landed on our development release schedule.

We’re always interested in making booking flights as easy as possible for our customers, whether via our voice-activated iPhone app, our exclusive amenities guide or our Price Drop Payback™ program. Plus, we’re always thrilled to be the first to try something exciting and new—and Bitcoin felt like an instant fit.

Bitcoin launched in 2009—and if you aren’t familiar, it’s a payment that is processed through a network of private computers. It’s been increasingly adopted among brands like WordPress, Reddit, OkCupid and more. Currently, Bitcoins are being exchanged at roughly 1 Bitcoin to $700 USD.

For now, we’re only accepting Bitcoin for flight bookings made on CheapAir.com. We hope to extend this payment option in the near future to hotels and flights booked via our iOS app.

In the meantime, try it out and let us know what you think in the comments below or by email! Your feedback is invaluable. After all, it’s customers like you who inspire us to try new things every day.

      Why Bitcoin & Travel ?
It’s easy to transfer. No ATM withdraws or checks to deposit.
It’s cheaper than Paypal. Much cheaper than Paypal.
Bitcoin can easily be transferred back into USD via your bank at 1% fee.
It’s portable. I can buy a bitcoin in the US and sell that bitcoin in Turkey (for example) for Turkish lira and pay no fees.
It’s just much easier to accept and cheaper to process than checks, cash & credit cards. I can also use bitcoin for all my travel related expenses such as flights and hotels. I am also anxious to know how the 3rd world economies are doing with bitcoin.

So basically, in a democracy, you are mandating my payment form…will NEVER utilize this website and am not removing you from inbox.

    • CheapAir

      Hi Tabby,

Sorry you feel that way. Our website still accepts Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and Cash payments via Western Union. Bitcoin is just a new form of payment we accept. No other online travel website accepts all these payment options.

I personally think this is one more way our world is moving toward the “Mark of the beast, and one world government–one world currency” I will never use this at any time. Sorry for you and your company if you are being fooled. Please read your Bible God makes it very clear!

Bitcoin is not a government currency, it’s a ledger of transactions maintained by participants, where the numbers changing hands have a perceived value, are infeasibly difficult to counterfeit, and are very easy to protect.

I am a Bitcoin advocate and a voluntaryist, so Bitcoin exists completely free of government for me, you can make your own deductions from this knowledge.

Thanks! We’re working on adding Bitcoin payment for hotels and other travel products, but it will take us some time to get it up and working properly. Once we do, we’ll definitely let everyone know. We appreciate the support and are here for you if you need any assistance with your travels.

Not only are you offering convenience in the form of another payment option, you are bolstering a decentralized and increasingly-important cryptocurrency, which cuts out various middle men. I’m sure this is good both for you and for us, the consumers. Thanks for being pioneers!

    D. Benner – I don’t understand your reference. Could you quote some scripture that may make this more clear? Also, could you expand on the “one world government-one world currency” angle? I don’t understand why you would never use this, or how this company might be fooled. I don’t want to be fooled, either, but I don’t understand where the fooling is happening.

Good Job CheapAir, I just purchased 2 roundtrip airline tickets using Bitcoin and the transaction was fast and seamless. I like to explain Bitcoin to most people as more of a debit card 2.0, where your personal financial info is only exchanged by proven & secure banking institutions. Which is much safer than credit cards or checks that give everyone access to your personal info and later ask you to verify the transaction. I would rather verify first and not risk identity or credit card fraud. Bitcoin. Smart, not evil.

Way to go guys! I’m a new customer now … I was using one of your competitors but not any longer. I used a competitive site like yours for hotels a ton with my own business but for mileage reasons usually book through the airline directly … Do I still get to credit my mileage plan if I book through you?

    Reply ·
    • CheapAir

      Hi Koep,

Thanks! We appreciate your support. When booking with CheapAir.com, you can enter your airline mileage numbers during the booking process to get credit for flights booked. We even will list any partner airlines that are in the same alliance. So, yes you can still earn your mileage credit. Definitely let us know if you need any assistance with your travels.

BITCOIN is a tool of refusal that says to the IRS and the NSA

“I do not consent to being watched and I rebuke the evil which you are imposing upon the world!.

To all those who don’t understand what BITCOIN is, or WHY it’s important…

…my heart goes out to you.

Bitcoin is ANTI- ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT.

It’s a MAJOR pain in the ass for the global war criminals and banking fraudsters, who are currently coming up with their OWN proprietary version of bitcoin which produces a *profit* and is 100% traceable and controllable by a centralized “authority”….for our own good of coarse (yeah right!).

Bitcoin is a revolutionary and unbelievably important tool in the hands of the average citizen. It’s practically free, it’s decentralized, it’s powerful.

I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED BECAUSE YOU ONLY ACCEPT BITCOIN FOR FLIGHTS. I MAY BE TRAVELLING IN THE FUTURE AND WOULD LIKE TO MINE A CAR, HOTEL, AND FLIGHT.

CAN YOU PLEASE ADD THE OPTION TO PAY FOR A HOTEL AND CAR VIA BTC, LTC, AND DGC? ALSO, CAN YOU PLEASE PLEASE , PLEASE. ALLOW SPLIT PAYMENTS, PART BITCOIN/DGC/LTC AND PART CASH/WESTERN-UNION?

ALSO, PLEASE ALLOW PART BTC, PART DGC, AND PART LTC.

    THANKS,

      Hi Ahmed,

Thanks for the feedback. We are working on implementing the various payment options across all products on CheapAir.com. Currently the only way to do a split payment for flights is to call us at 1-800-243-2724. We do charge an additional 4% cost to split the charges. Please let us know if you need any assistance with booking.
