Most Americans consider Labor Day the unofficial end of vacation season, but thankfully the calendar tells us that summer’s end is not until the 21st of September. Very good domestic deals and some shockingly cheap airfares to international destinations are available in the next few weeks if you just know where to look.
CheapAir’s Summer Trends Flight Report is still a fantastic resource for tracking the best airfare deals. Keep in mind, you’ll still save the most money if you fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and even starting your vacation on a Monday instead of Sunday will often shave a few more bucks off the bottom line.
Cheap Flights in Late Summer: It’s Not Too Late to Book a Deal
International flights are where you’ll see the deepest discounts. From New York or Los Angeles for example, you can get to most major gateways in Asia for under $1000 in the next few weeks. The up-and-coming destination of Colombia can be yours for the bargain price of right around $400 from either L.A. or NYC as well. Los Angeles to Barcelona or Budapest is just under $700 right now, and even flights to Auckland (never inexpensive) are hovering right around the relatively reasonable-for-last minute $1000 mark.
Maybe you had summer vacation plans that never quite materialized or you decided to forego a summer holiday in order to log more time at work. Well, with the season winding down – we urge you to take a second look. If you can get the time off, you can snag a bargain. You deserve a holiday and this summer you can still get one on the cheap.
