A major blizzard is expected to hit the northeast this weekend. Nearly 3,000 flights have already been preemptively cancelled for Friday and more flight cancellations and major travel delays are expected. As is usual protocol, many airlines are proactively offering flexible rebooking options to help alleviate travel stress.
If you are set to travel in the next few days we strongly recommend checking your flight status for delays or cancellations. If you are flying on the impacted dates to, from or through the impacted cities you may qualify for a free itinerary change. Most airlines have instituted waivers for:
Impacted dates: February 8-9, 2013
Traveling from, to or through north east states or provinces: CT, ME, MA, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT Quebec, Ontario (United Airlines has extended waiver to some cities in Midwest states: KS, IL, IA, MI, OH, and WI)
Please use our airline travel advisory chart below to see if the airline you are flying is offering a travel waiver for your specific itinerary.
As a general rule of thumb, most airlines go by these rules:
1. If your flight is canceled you have the option of obtaining a full refund.
2. If you would like to reschedule your trip, you can do so without having to pay any penalty, although in some cases you may have to pay a difference in fare if you’re changing to a more expensive itinerary. Though most airlines are offering postponing flights, they generally only allow postponements within days.
